The peak¶
Overlook Point, 13,005', Class 2 — a LiDAR promotion, and it knows it. One trip report calls the view "the knockout view of the Needle Mountains from Overlook Pt, recently promoted to the ranks of Colorado's 13ers via the magic of LiDAR." That party brought their kids.
It is the only unclimbed ranked peak within 5 miles — Aztec, Turret, Pigeon, Peak Fifteen, Eolus, Monitor, Animas and Peak Eleven are all already ticked.

The recommended route — 8.7 mi / 2,206 ft¶

throughout, 42% of it on trail, and a genuinely short day by the standards of this drive.
The mileage range in the pool is wide and worth understanding. Two recordings summit Overlook Point as clean round trips:

So 8.7 mi is not an optimistic figure — it is the Overlook portion of a real recording, with the Aztec half removed. If you find yourself walking 17 mi for this peak alone, you have taken the long way.
Optional extension — adding Aztec Mtn¶
You have already climbed Aztec, so this is here for completeness (or for a partner who hasn't). The good news is that it genuinely connects; the honest news is that it is not a casual bolt-on.
Exactly one party in the pool did both, and trk_loj_17908 is their track. From LoJ TR 28976
(avalletta, July 2025):
"I combined Aztec with a short overnight camp halfway between the two peaks… Headed out to Overlook at 2:45 am and summitted a little over two hours later. Proceeded towards Aztec and camped at 12,200 feet west of Mount Kennedy and Aztec… Woke up and headed towards Mount Kennedy, then Aztec at 6:00 am… Summited both via the ridge."

So Aztec roughly doubles the day — and the party who did it chose to split it over two days with a high camp at 12,200 ft rather than push it in one. Their line also picks up Mount Kennedy (unranked) on the ridge between the two, which is free once you are committed.
Aztec is Class 2+ on LoJ, a notch harder than Overlook's Class 2, and the connection is ridge travel. If you want both in a day rather than overnight, budget for a very long one: the recording's 16.6 mi and 5,456 ft was spread across a night out.

Gear & season¶
- Best window: July through September. The pool contains April and May recordings, so shoulder season carries snow up here.
- Terrain: Class 2, and gentle for it — nearly half the route is on trail.
- Cell: unreliable this far up Missionary Ridge.
Other considerations¶
Webb Peak (12,748') is the cheap add-on, not Aztec. Two separate trip reports in the pool pair Overlook Point with Webb, which sits immediately adjacent. It is unranked, so it does not count toward the list, but it costs a fraction of what Aztec does.
This is a 10-hour drive for an 8.7 mi day. Worth stacking with something else in the Durango area rather than making the trip for this alone.
